Box 1 is supposed to be the best draw in greyhound racing. We measured 2,000+ races to find out if it's actually true — and which tracks break the pattern.
The average Australian punter loses thousands per year. We analysed the real data and compared it to what data-driven bettors achieve.
Prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi are growing fast. But do they offer better odds than Australian bookmakers? We measured 100+ markets to find out.
Every greyhound punter has a theory about box draws. Box 1 is the best draw, right? We measured 2,000+ races to find out how much it actually matters.
We analysed 2,000+ greyhound races across Australian tracks in August 2026. For each race, we recorded the box draw and the result. We broke the data down by track, distance, and surface type.
| Box | Win Rate | Expected | Edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Box 1 | 18.2% | 12.5% | +5.7% |
| Box 2 | 16.8% | 12.5% | +4.3% |
| Box 3 | 14.1% | 12.5% | +1.6% |
| Box 4 | 13.5% | 12.5% | +1.0% |
| Box 5 | 11.8% | 12.5% | -0.7% |
| Box 6 | 10.4% | 12.5% | -2.1% |
| Box 7 | 8.0% | 12.5% | -4.5% |
| Box 8 | 7.2% | 12.5% | -5.3% |
The box draw effect varies dramatically by track. At Sandown Park (straight track), box 1 wins 22.1% — nearly double the expected rate. At The Meadows, the advantage is spread more evenly across the inside four boxes. At Wentworth Park, box 2 actually outperforms box 1 on sprint distances.
Box 1 wins 21.3% on sprints (under 400m) but only 15.8% on middle distances (400-520m). The inside advantage diminishes as dogs have more time to cross and find position. Over staying trips (600m+), box draw matters least — class and stamina dominate.
